There is Beauty in Letting Things Go
I don’t know about you, but I swear the summer was just yesterday and Christmas feels like it’s tomorrow. The seasons are changing and I know at this point it seems like we’ve spent a year in one whole never-ending month. To say that our collective lives have been altered is an understatement. To say our lives will be forever changed–well that’s not stretching the truth either right?
There’s a quote written by Sir or Madam Unknown which states that “Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.” In this reminder we see that just as surely as the trees release their leaves, we too can shed those things that once thrived but now deserve their rest. As we enter yet another season in the longest year in the history of longest years, let’s consider “letting go” of what no longer serves us.
So what or who do you plan on setting aside in this season? Maybe for a minute, for a couple of tomorrows or dare I say forever and a day. Whatever or “whom-so-ever” it is, check to be sure it’s for your benefit and not your detriment; that it inches you closer to wholeness and wellness even in the middle of these uncertain times.
Next time you check in with your therapist, consider bringing up the subject of “letting go” and what it means to get some weight off in the Autumn season of your life.
